Default What channel are you on?

Hi All
What channel are you using at the Horseshoe, Flats, Catalina and Clemente ? If is frustrating trying to contact others (besides my friends) that I see. For instance to share a paddy, to share info or for the SOC GTG. Is there a standard channel for private boaters that I am not aware of?

I believe the party boats are on 68 thru 73. I know that they want to be secretive so as to not draw a crowd, so I think they change frequently.

Thanks
Lars

68 seems to be the normal for general conversation. You need to speak in "CODE" to identify the next channel. Kinda like when girls go to the bathroom together. It's a "Who do you know when you're out there kinda thing"...Otherwise, I ain't tellin...

68 and 72 are the two common channels for Cat and the Dana Point areas. The party boat usually use different radios that we don't have so they don't have to be botherred with private boaters. I have never heard a party boat on the vhf radio.

If you don't use DSC to plot a friendly boat than you are missing a great use of it. My plotter will offer the choice to put a waypoint at the other boat's position or I can just look at the position for a moment and then move on without a waypoint. Great fishing tool for buddy boats.

I have a Raymarine E80, but there are many makes that will do the same once the DSC information is connected to the plotter.
