The line that broke was flexible, how much slack should there be at the caliper! And could the pressure in the caliper case the hose to fail at the fitting? If anyone has some pictures of there brake set up I would like to see them!

It would help if you could provide pictures of your caliper set up and show the surrounding axle. There may be someone who could see what your problem might be. I will try to take a couple pictures of my caliper/brake line.

Thanks, I will try to get over and get some pictures this aftenoon. Something must have come loose since the calipers were installed. I made a trip down to Key West from Melbourne, FL about 600 miles round trip with no issues, and now I travel 10 miles and the brake line keeps breaking! maybe the caliper slide bolts are loose or the flange bolts....

Think I have found the problem, looks like the frame is contacting the brake line when going over bumps. I talked to the folks at Tiedown and they told me that on certain trailers this can occur and to fix it either rotate the caliper fittings or put the calipers an the back side or the rotor.IMG_1329.jpg

Tom,
Glad you found the problem. Most (all ?) the disc brake calipers that I have seen, are install aft of the axle. So, the mounting bolts are on a vertical axis. |

I've never seen the caliper mounted directly above the axle before...some back 90° and some forward 90°. Does anyone else have theirs mounted directly above the axle?

Take a look at the last picture, my caliper is mounted at approx 90 degress.

The previous Tiedown calipers were mounted in this position, and the instructions say the preferred postion is 12 o-clock high or the 3 o-clock postion, the old calipers were slightly different, the brake line fittings were set back a little more than on the new ones. I just didn't notice there would be any interference with the trailer. Plan is to re-mount the calipers to the back side of the axle, replace brake line and bleed. hopefully I won't have anymore problems! thanks for all of the help!
